2008 The Kidney Wales People Like Us group sets up to campaign for a change in the law on organ donation.
2008/09 Welsh Government consultation into Opt Out Organ Donation confirmed public support for a change in the system.
2010 YouGov poll showed 71% of people in Wales supported a change to system of Opt Out organ donation.
July 2010 Kidney Wales attends cross-party group of Members of Parliament with patients in Westminster.
2011 Fatality rate of those on the transplant waiting list in Wales rises to an average of 1 person a week.
12 July 2011 Announcement of Government legislative statement setting out that the Welsh Government would “…launch a white paper consultation on an Organ Donation (Wales) Bill before the end of this year. The Bill will provide for an opt-out system of organ donation, backed by a comprehensive communication programme.”
8 November 2011 Welsh Government White Paper: Proposals for Legislation on Organ and Tissue Donation launched
8 November 2011 – 31 January 2012 Welsh Government consultation period on the proposed Organ and Tissue Donation Bill including a series of public consultation meetings across Wales.
December 2011 – January 2012 Kidney Wales consults with other charities; British Heart Foundation, Diabetes UK Cymru, British Medical Association, British Lung Foundation, People Like Us Cymru and Welsh Kidney Patients Association and responds to Government consultation.
2 March 2012 BBC Wales St David’s Day Poll shows 63% of the Welsh public in favour of a move to Opt Out.
8 March 2012 Welsh Government publishes Summary of Responses to the Public Consultation with 52% (642) of respondents supporting the proposals.
18 June 2012 Draft legislation published by the Welsh Government followed by a 12 week consultation period.
July/ August / September 2012 Consultation meetings held throughout Wales to discuss the draft bill and looking at details of the bill and how the system will work in practice.
September 10th 2012 Daft Human Transplantation (Wales) Bill Consultation closed.
